Teachers should not expect salary increases in the near future - Lisovyi
Ukrainian teachers should not expect a salary increase in the near future due to the difficult situation in the state budget.
This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi at a briefing during a working trip to the Mykolaiv region.
“This is a very painful problem... We all understand that it is very difficult for us to attract young people to teaching in institutions of secondary, out-of-school, vocational education, etc. We have developed a certain concept for increasing wages; the final provisions of the law on education provide for an increase in wages to three times the minimum wage. We understand what a decent salary level means, including in order to encourage teachers to self-development and professional growth. But today we have a critical situation in the budget, it is too complicated,” Lisovyi said.
He also noted that today more than 70% of the state budget is spent on defense, but when the war ends, it will be possible to implement this concept first.
“We need to hold out. Because the position of the President of Ukraine, and we all share it, is that education is priority No. 1 after defence. Let’s defend the country, repel the enemy – and make education priority No. 1,” said the head of the Ministry of Education and Science.
