Halushchenko: Ukraine’s energy system enters the winter "with the highest possible level of readiness"
Scheduled repairs at Ukraine’s power plants were completed on time. The energy system enters the winter season with the "highest possible level of preparedness."
This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, according to The New York Times.
As NYT reminds, during one of the interviews, the former head of "Ukrenergo" Volodymyr Kudrytskyi claimed that the dispute with the Ministry of Energy concerned the strategy of ensuring energy supply security. The former official advocated for Ukraine to build dozens of small private power plants throughout the country to make the energy system less vulnerable to terrorist attacks from Russia.
However, Kudrytskyi’s position allegedly contradicted Halushchenko’s, who supported the idea of centralizing state-owned companies.
"When the Ukrainian government adopted a plan to decentralize the energy system in mid-July, experts and diplomats stated that it was already too late to significantly strengthen the energy supply ahead of the winter," the publication adds.
In written responses to the NYT, Halushchenko denied rumors that he allegedly insisted on Kudrytskyi’s dismissal. He specifically added that he had no influence over "Ukrenergo’s" supervisory board.
According to the minister, the claim that internal conflicts undermined Ukraine’s energy policy is also false. He noted that the scheduled repairs at power plants were "completed on time," and Ukraine’s energy system enters the winter season "with the highest possible level of readiness."
