In Latvia, in the territory of the Šķaune Parish (which borders Belarus), two Ukrainian citizens were detained in a minibus disguised as a transport vehicle of the Latvian State Border Guard. The Ukrainian citizens were accused of attempting to transport illegal migrants.

The investigation believes that the "clients" were supposed to be 25 illegal migrants of Asian origin who had illegally entered Latvia from Belarus and were found nearby. The website of the Latvian border agency reports that the detention occurred on the night of November 1st.

"The vehicle appeared to be similar to a State Border Guard car from the outside, with identical markings, identification signs, and beacons. When the vehicle was stopped, there were two people in it: a driver and a passenger," explained the head of the Daugavpils Border Guard Department, Raimond Kublikis, in a statement to LSM+

During the document check, it was found that the men were Ukrainian citizens. They could not explain why they were in a pseudo-border guard vehicle.

It turned out that the Renault Master was purchased in Poland. The "dealers" covered the windows with plywood so that no one could see who was inside; they used white, not blue, beacons; Polish inscriptions remained on the license plate.

The investigation within the framework of the criminal case is ongoing.

Latvian Minister of Internal Affairs Rihards Kozlovskis stated that such cases indicate the existence of a large illegal migrant transport network that has been in place for a long time and brings billions to the organizers.

"If we consider the incident in Aizkraukle, if these people had managed to achieve their goal, it would have brought them a very large income. Therefore, they are clearly willing to take the risk," Kozlovskis said.
