Candidates for the position of Prosecutor General were mentioned in anti-corruption materials - media
According to information from sources in the President’s Office and the Office of the Prosecutor General, the publication "Fakty" has identified three main candidates currently being considered for the vacant position of Prosecutor General. All of them have controversial reputations and have been featured in journalistic anti-corruption investigations.
According to "Fakty", one of the candidates is the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko, who has prosecutorial experience. He is allegedly supported by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba and the Acting Prosecutor General Oleksiy Khomenko.
In October 2023, journalists from "Nashi Hroshi" discovered that under Kravchenko’s leadership, the Kyiv Regional State Administration ordered generators for the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant for 5 million, which are significantly higher than the market value. During the competition for the position of NABU head, "Radio Liberty" established that as a candidate, Kravchenko declared receiving official housing in December 2018, but the following year privatized it and sold it.
The second candidate is the Deputy Head of the President’s Office, Iryna Mudra. "Fakty" sources highlighted her advantages: experience in the Ministry of Justice and non-conflict nature. According to the publication "Informator", Iryna Mudra owns three apartments and a parking space in Kyiv and possesses an Audemars Piguet wristwatch (which can cost up to a million hryvnias), a diamond ring by Graff, and a Cartier bracelet. On February 24, 2023, she purchased a 2022 Range Rover Sport, but registered it under her daughter Karyna Shatrova’s name.
"Regarding Iryna Mudra, she comes from the banking sector and continues to maintain business and friendly relations with the current head of the National Bank, Andriy Pyshnyi, where her current husband works. It is rumored at the National Bank that former colleagues ’are constantly in touch,’ and Mudra’s appointment to the President’s Office could be attributed to Andriy Pyshnyi," the material states.
The third potential contender mentioned by the publication is Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration and the subject of numerous journalistic investigations. For example, in 2022, Kiper was embroiled in a scandal over a 10-day vacation abroad during martial law. Investigators from "Hromadske" found that as the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Kiper effectively established "manual control" over agro-export, which yields super-profits for the participants in the scheme.
"The level of responsibility of the Prosecutor General and the scope of tasks require constant activity and physical presence of the official. Therefore, the performance of duties by a deputy is permissible only for a short period while the appointment of a new one is ongoing. Hence, the pause in appointing Ukraine’s Prosecutor General will be brief. Who will it be — we will see soon, but for now, the available candidates are causing only anxious feelings and anticipation. Most questions about them still remain unanswered," writes "Fakty".
