In Odesa, a man was detained for extorting $25,000 from a serviceman
In Odesa, a man suspected of extorting 25,000 dollars from a serviceman for "assistance" in obtaining a non-combat status was arrested.
This was announced by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region on December 3rd.
The investigation revealed that a 34-year-old Odesa resident learned about a serviceman who was injured while on duty and needed to go through a military medical commission to determine fitness for service. He offered his "assistance" in expediting bureaucratic procedures.
For exerting influence on the members of the military medical commission and ensuring that no artificial obstacles were created for the serviceman, the suspect demanded 25,000 dollars. If there was a refusal to provide the money and an attempt to go through the commission independently, the man was threatened that he would not receive any commission decision at all, according to the police.
