About 7.7 million Ukrainians are abroad, - MFA

"According to information from foreign diplomatic missions, currently about 7.7 million Ukrainian citizens are outside Ukraine, of which 5.3 million or 69 percent are in EU member countries, around 880,000 in the USA, about 408,000 in Canada, and around 200,000 in the United Kingdom," noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

At the same time, the department is unaware of how many people are in Russia, as Ukraine does not have diplomatic relations with this country.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that as of mid-November 2024, over 400,000 Ukrainian citizens are registered with consulates (registration of a citizen’s residence information by Ukraine’s diplomatic missions), of which 250,000 are in EU member countries. Consular registration is not mandatory and is carried out on a voluntary basis, the Ministry explained. This registration allows for quick consular assistance and also provides the opportunity to participate in voting at foreign polling stations.
