The Armed Forces of Ukraine have established a unit that will protect cultural heritage
A unit responsible for the protection of cultural heritage has been established within the military forces. It will operate within the framework of civil-military cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The new unit will consist of servicemen who have education and work experience in the fields of culture, archaeology, history, and museum studies.
Their main task will be to coordinate measures for the protection, preservation, and prevention of destruction of cultural heritage sites that may be at risk as a result of hostilities.
This decision was made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and approved by a joint directive with the Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov. Prior to this, extensive consultations were held with international partners, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, as well as with the public.
