Britain may establish military bases in Ukraine
The signed declaration on a 100-year partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom considers the possibility of deploying British military bases on the territory of Ukraine.
This was reported by UP.
The declaration, signed together with the Agreement on the Centennial Partnership last week, states that the United Kingdom will cooperate with Ukraine in determining joint military needs and will develop capabilities and technologies that both countries can jointly produce.
"The parties will consider the possibilities of creating and maintaining defense infrastructure in Ukraine, including military bases, logistical supply depots, repositories for reserve military equipment, and military reserve stockpiles. These facilities may be used to enhance the defense capabilities of both countries in case of a significant military threat," the document states.
At the moment, the wording in the declaration is considered a theoretical possibility. Currently, the details regarding the format of deployment of potential military bases remain undefined.
The question also remains open as to how this initiative aligns with the current provision of Article 17 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which stipulates that the placement of foreign military bases on the territory of Ukraine is not allowed.
The Declaration on the Centennial Partnership is positioned as part of the main Agreement on the Centennial Partnership, but legally this document is not linked to the agreement and is not subject to ratification.
