MP Kostenko: After decriminalization, the number of AWOL cases increased by 60%

According to the Secretary of the Defence Committee of the Rada, Roman Kostenko, after the law on decriminalization came into effect, the number of cases of unauthorized leave in the army increased by 60%.

«I have spoken with our elite units, — both with the Air Assault Forces and with the marines: the number of unauthorized leaves has increased by 60%. This happened because the soldiers decided that they could do it once, and they have the right to do so», — Kostenko noted.

Let us recall that under this law, for the first unauthorized leave, punishment can be avoided if one voluntarily returns to service afterward.
