General Staff: In 6 months of the Kursk operation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated nearly 40,000 invaders
In six months of military actions in the Kursk region, the total losses of Russian occupiers amounted to about 40,000 personnel, of which more than 16,000 Russian military were killed.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Kursk operation began on August 6, 2024, and has been ongoing for half a year. Its aim was to prevent a new enemy offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions and forced the Russian occupiers to transfer significant resources to the Kursk region, weakening their positions on other fronts.
The General Staff notes that Russia was forced to request assistance from North Korea, which sent 12,000 of its servicemen to the Kursk region, and according to their data, the total losses of the DPRK contingent amounted to about four thousand people. As a result, of the three nominal North Korean brigades, one has been effectively destroyed, and two have lost combat capability. Currently, DPRK units have been withdrawn from the front line, the General Staff emphasizes.
«In six months of active combat operations in the Kursk region, the total losses of Russians in manpower are approximately 39, 900, of which about 16, 100 — were killed», — said the press service.
According to the General Staff, as of February 5, 2025, the enemy in the Kursk region lost:
- 131 tanks,
- 689 armored fighting vehicles,
- 386 artillery systems,
- 12 MLRS units,
- 12 air defence systems,
- an airplane,
- 3 helicopters,
- 931 operational-tactical UAVs,
- 1164 vehicles,
- 34 special equipment units.
Additionally, during the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 909 Russian military personnel, significantly replenishing the exchange fund. This allowed the return of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders who were held in Russian prisons, the military emphasizes.
«The Kursk offensive operation remains an example of unexpected asymmetric and successful actions by the Defence Forces of Ukraine, allowing significant losses to be inflicted on the superior enemy and to seize the initiative on the battlefield», — added the General Staff.
