The commander of the division "received" a million from selling leave to servicemen

Subordinates thanked the commander not only with money but also with household and computer equipment.

In Mykolaiv, officers of the State Bureau of Investigation detained a former division commander of one of the military units in the Kherson direction, who was systematically extorting money from subordinates. The total amount of illegal demands reached at least 1 million hryvnias, reports PN.

The perpetrator essentially "sold" leave to servicemen and then concealed their absence from the command. In addition, he demanded money from the military, threatening them with punishment for alleged violations of service discipline.

Subordinates under the commander’s pressure thanked him not only with money but also with services, bought him household and computer equipment, and items for children. According to operational data, in 2023-2024, the officer "earned" almost 1 million hryvnias in this way.

Thanks to cooperation with the military, SBI employees uncovered the perpetrator. During searches conducted at the suspect’s places of residence, illegally obtained property and documents confirming the fact of receiving undue benefits were found.

"Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Kherson Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defence Sphere of the Southern Region, the former division commander of the military unit was notified of suspicion for exceeding service powers as a military officer, extortion, and receiving undue benefits (part 5 of Article 426-1, part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the Prosecutor General’s Office stated.

A motion is currently being prepared to remand him in custody as a preventive measure.
