Russia – aggressor, Ukraine – nation that suffered from aggression. Sanctions against Russia should have been implemented three years ago and continue to be implemented,  stated  French President Emmanuel Macron after a discussion between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump.

"Russia – aggressor, Ukraine – nation that suffered from aggression. I think we all knew that we needed to help Ukraine and implement sanctions against Russia three years ago and continue to do this. When I say "we", I mean the United States of America, Europeans, Canadians, Japanese, and many others," Macron told journalists, reports BFM TV channel.

He noted that "we must thank everyone who helped, and we must respect those who have been fighting from the very beginning."

"Because they are fighting for their dignity, for their independence, for their children, and for the security of Europe. These are simple things, but they are worth remembering at such times," Macron added.
