Ukraine will receive 5,000 high-precision LMM interceptor missiles as part of the joint LMM-RapidRanger project with the United Kingdom.
This was reported by the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov, on Facebook.
"Today in the United Kingdom, as part of the Ukrainian delegation headed by the President of Ukraine, strategic agreements were reached – we are launching a large-scale LMM-RapidRanger project to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence," Umyerov stated.
According to him, as part of this initiative, Ukraine will receive over 5,000 LMM (Lightweight Multirole Missile) interceptor missiles and launchers for them.
"LMM – these are high-precision interceptor missiles that effectively destroy Shahed drones. They have already proven their effectiveness in combat from 2022 to 2024," Umyerov noted.
He emphasized that this agreement is one of the largest in Ukraine’s history in the field of security and defence.
The £1.6 billion project aims to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence by 2030. It is funded through a loan guaranteed by the UK government agency UK Export Finance (UKEF).
"We are implementing the project together with the British company Thales, Ukrainian enterprises, and the UK government," Umyerov informed.
He emphasized that, in addition to the supply of arms, the intergovernmental agreement includes the localization of production and the transfer of technologies, which will enhance Ukraine’s strategic independence in the field of air defence.
Umyerov thanked the UK government and all partners for supporting Ukraine in the struggle for freedom.
