Property in the shadows: How MP Kachnyi hides assets through his wife

Member of Parliament Oleksandr Kachnyi, a member of the pro-Russian group «Platform for Life and Peace», continues to register properties in the name of his wife Lyudmyla Kachna. The politician, who has repeatedly publicly justified Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, officially owns only one apartment, while his wife has significantly more assets.

Real estate and assets of the Kachnyi family

According to Kachnyi’s declaration for 2024, he is officially the owner of an apartment in Kyiv with an area of 135.3 sqm. Meanwhile, his wife Lyudmyla Kachna owns:
Two land plots in Kyiv (593 sqm and 622 sqm).
Two summer houses (161.2 sqm and 121.2 sqm).
Two parking spaces.

Kachnyi himself is registered in a residential house in Rzhyshchiv (Kyiv region), which belongs to his mother Valentyna Horykhovska.

Despite having a large amount of real estate, since 2022, the MP’s wife has been renting an apartment in Kyiv with an area of 136.2 sqm from a Ukrainian citizen Iryna Zhukovska.

Cars: Rented luxury cars instead of own
Officially, the couple does not own their own cars, but they use elite vehicles:
Lyudmyla Kachna drives a BMW X3 (2016), purchased in 2022 for 1.2 million UAH. The car is registered to Vasyl Petrovych Furdela, who dealt in car rentals.
Oleksandr Kachnyi rents a MERCEDES-BENZ S 560 (2017) from Vadym Kushnir, a former deputy of the Bila Tserkva City Council from the party «Strong Ukraine» of Serhii Tihipko (2010–2015).

Kushnir also worked as an aide to People’s Deputies from the Party of Regions and was a trusted person of Yuriy Boyko in the 2019 presidential elections.

Income and financial assets
For 2023, Oleksandr Kachny declared:
721,000 UAH salary.
238,000 UAH pension.

Lyudmyla Kachna owns a 50% share in the authorized capital of LLC «Rostok» (worth 3,700 UAH), but her official income is not declared.

The couple’s cash assets:
Oleksandr Kachnyi has 600,000 UAH in cash.
Liudmyla Kachna holds savings in foreign currency – 180,000 dollars in cash.

Political career of Oleksandr Kachnyi
Kachnyi has a long path in politics, having gone through the Socialist Party, the Party of Regions, "Opposition Bloc", and OPFL.

2006 – deputy of the Kyiv Regional Council from the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU).
2010 – elected to the Regional Council from the Party of Regions, led it.
2014 – after the Revolution of Dignity, resigned.
2015 – deputy of the Kyiv Regional Council from the «Opposition Bloc», led the local party organization.
2019 – People’s Deputy from the «Opposition Platform – For Life» (OPFL).

After the ban on OPFL in 2022, Kachnyi, along with other former members of the Party of Regions, joined the parliamentary group «Platform for Life and Peace».

Currently, there is an ongoing investigation into his political activities and possible corruption schemes related to hidden assets.
