Zelenskyy: Putin lies to everyone and is delaying the decision to ceasefire

Zelenskyy spoke at a meeting of European leaders, noting that the path to peace should start without conditions. According to him, if Russia doesn’t agree to this, strong pressure should be applied until it does. The President of Ukraine emphasized that Moscow only understands one language.

"Since Tuesday, there is a proposal on the table for a ceasefire - silence in the air, at sea, and on the fronts. This is an American proposal - a complete, unconditional ceasefire for 30 days. During this time, without killings, all aspects of real peace could be genuinely discussed," noted the head of Ukraine.

Putin delays the ceasefire

Zelenskyy mentioned that during the meeting they discussed who is delaying and stalling the peace process. According to him, it has now become evident. The President of Ukraine stressed that the ceasefire could have happened already, but Russia is doing everything possible to prevent it.

He stressed that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is lying to everyone about the situation on the ground.

"Putin is lying to everyone about the situation on the ground, particularly about what’s happening in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces continue their operations. Our troops have also stabilized the situation on the front in the Donetsk region - especially in the Pokrovsk area. Putin also lies that the ceasefire is allegedly too complicated," Zelenskyy said.

The head of Ukraine stated that, in reality, everything can be controlled, and this issue was discussed with American partners. He emphasized that Putin has already prolonged the war for almost a week after the talks in Jeddah and will continue to do so.

The President emphasized that this is Russia’s war, which has lasted for over three years, with full-scale battles and destruction. In order to stop this conflict, active pressure on Russia is needed, not just negotiations. Zelenskyy believes that decisive measures are needed to take the first steps toward ending the war.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

"This includes sanctions against Russia, which not only have to be maintained but constantly strengthened. I urge you to take these steps and work on this together with partners. We must define a clear position regarding security guarantees. Security is the key to a reliable and lasting peace," he emphasized.

Zelenskyy underlined the need to continue working on the formation of contingents that will become the foundation of future European Armed Forces. He noted that peace will be more reliable if European contingents are on the ground, and American support becomes a security guarantee.

The President of Ukraine also noted that there should be clear commitments about how exactly this will be implemented.

Weapons production

"The same applies to investments in weapons production - both in Ukraine, where it is currently growing the fastest, and in European countries. Europe needs its own arsenals and the capability to produce the most modern weapons. The production of ammunition should not take 3-5 years when it comes to your defence and security. Do it as quickly as possible," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Zelenskyy asked not to forget about strengthening air defence, both in Ukraine and in the future - in European countries. He emphasized that all countries need protection and thanked everyone who helps Ukraine in this direction.

"A very bad signal - to consider Russia’s opinion regarding an international contingent. The contingent should be placed on Ukrainian soil. This is a security guarantee for Ukraine and a security guarantee for Europe. If Putin wants to place a foreign contingent on Russian territory - that’s his business. But he has no right to resolve Ukraine’s and Europe’s security issues," the president noted.

Uniting the world’s efforts

Zelenskyy also emphasized the need to unite not only Europe and the G7 but all other countries in the world for the sake of peace. He noted that many leaders have connections around the world - in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific region, and stressed that Ukraine wants to end the war fairly. The Ukrainian president added that the world must understand that Russia is the only obstacle on the path to peace.

"I urge you to speak with everyone - from Brazil to China, from African to Asian countries - that real peace is needed. Peace through force. Peace through coercion for Russia to take necessary steps for the sake of peace," he added.

Zelenskyy noted that for many years Putin has lied to the world, claiming he doesn’t provoke and doesn’t prolong the war. However, when it came to the ceasefire, it became obvious that the one who sets unnecessary conditions that complicate and delay everything is the real cause of the war. According to him, this is precisely what Putin does.

"The path to peace must start without any conditions. If Russia does not want this, strong pressure must be applied until it agrees. Moscow only understands one language. I urge you to speak with America, with President (USA Donald) Trump, to help bring peace closer. This is possible through comprehensive sanctions, strong pressure, and coercion for Russia to peace," the president concluded.
