Chubarov refuted rumors about the possible recognition of Crimea as Russian by the Trump administration
He ruled out the possibility that Trump might allow a change in policy regarding the Crimea issue.
The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, called the data from the American publication Semafor false, which claimed that the U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is considering recognizing annexed Crimea as Russian territory as part of a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
"We consider such data to be blatant fakes and reject the possibility of such nonsense being voiced by well-known American politicians, let alone the U.S. President. We are confident that such a statement cannot be made by anyone," commented Chubarov during the broadcast of the "SvobodaLive" program.
"I adhere to the view that countries do not change their positions so drastically on issues that pertain to the global world," he added.
The politician recalled that in the "Crimea Declaration," adopted by the U.S. and made public on July 25, 2018, it is stated that "no country can change the borders of another by force. The U.S. rejects Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea and commits to supporting this policy until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored."
Therefore, Chubarov noted, it is difficult to imagine that "U.S. high-ranking officials would announce something completely opposite" to this declaration.
"I can imagine that a particular politician might drastically change their views, but I cannot imagine that, on this issue, the U.S., as a state, under the influence of one person, even if it’s the president, might so radically change its policy," Chubarov shared his opinion.
