The Ministry of Defence has established the Space Policy Department, - Chernohorenko
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has established a space policy department, which aims to unite state and private companies, as well as scientists in the space industry, for interaction with the Ukrainian military.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defence for Digitalization, Kateryna Chernohorenko, during the Space For Ukraine forum.
"We have a law on space activities which states that the Ministry of Defence must shape the policy in the field of military space. This is not only about purchasing innovative solutions from engineers, not only about creating a community to bring the best solutions to Ukraine, but also about the establishment of space forces," stated the deputy minister.
According to Chernohorenko, the ministry plans to become the main customer of space technology, products, and services in Ukraine. This department should unite state and private institutions, as well as space industry scientists, for interaction with the defence forces.
"We want all innovators, all engineers involved in the development of space technologies to know the contacts and understand the digital entry points for interaction with us (the Ministry of Defence)," said the government official. "The department is a coordination center, a center for idea generation, a center for policy formation."
Additionally, she announced that by 2030, Ukraine plans to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as a system for air alarm warnings and space surveillance.
