Russia has intensified a new stage of the information war against European society ahead of the presidential elections in Poland.

This was reported on Sunday, May 18, by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The Russians are conducting a special operation called Doppelganger – one of the largest and longest-running information campaigns of the Kremlin, targeting EU and NATO countries. As part of the operation, Russian special services create websites and social media pages that imitate real Western media in content and appearance. On these resources, the Kremlin spreads disinformation under the guise of real news.

“To influence Polish voters, since March of this year, Russian special services have been spreading false and manipulative messages, particularly on the social network X, actively involving bot farms and artificial accounts that mimic real voters,” the intelligence officers report.

The main messages of the Russians are:

  • criticism of Poland’s support for Ukraine,
  • calls for the country to leave the European Union,
  • discreditation of Donald Tusk’s government policy.

Pro-Russian media also create a negative image of Ukraine, labeling it as the main factor of chaos in Polish politics.

“Such actions by the aggressor state are part of a broader strategy of Moscow’s hybrid pressure on EU and NATO countries, aimed at weakening their internal unity,” the post adds.
