Ukraine will receive an additional 400,000 artillery shells from the Czech Republic. The ammunition will be delivered this year as part of the so-called Czech initiative.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a joint press conference with the head of the Czech government, Petr Fiala, on May 20 in Uzhhorod. He also noted that Prague has increased its assistance to Ukraine.

"The so-called Czech initiative – the supply of ammunition to Ukraine’s Defence Forces – is crucial for us. Last year, about 1.5 million shells of various calibers were delivered. Another 400,000 will be delivered this year. This is an extraordinary effort that strengthens Ukraine," said the Ukrainian Prime Minister.

Additionally, the Czech government’s program for Ukraine’s recovery has been extended until 2030, and the amount of annual assistance has been increased to over 43 million dollars, noted Shmyhal.

"This demonstrates the long-term sustainable partnership between our countries. We appreciate it and are grateful," said the Prime Minister.

The head of government added that since 2022, Prague has provided military assistance to Kyiv totaling over 900 million dollars.
