In Kyiv, they deny the "failure of cooperation" between the USA and the EU on sanctions issues
The representative of the President of Ukraine on sanctions policy, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, refuted claims about an alleged breakup of cooperation between the USA and the European Union in the field of sanctions policy.
He wrote about this on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
Vlasiuk responded to a news report on the "EP" website about claims by German media that there allegedly has been a "breakup of cooperation" between the EU and the USA in the context of joint efforts against Moscow’s sanction evasion.
Vlasiuk disagreed that there has been a "breakup of cooperation" and confirmed that interaction between partners continues despite changes in the political environment.
"I am in communication with American sanctions experts and met them twice in three weeks at joint working meetings in Europe, where we discussed both sanction evasion and their strengthening. Is it the same ’momentum’ as before? No, but solely due to the political context. Is there a ’breakup of cooperation’? Absolutely not," he assures.
Vlasiuk emphasized that there is active exchange of information and ideas within the sanctions coalition.
According to him, all participants in the process are aware of each other’s plans: the United Kingdom is preparing new sanctions, the European Union is developing its 18th package, and the USA is targeting measures against the "shadow fleet" and schemes for circumventing restrictions.
At the same time, he noted that it would be difficult for the EU to reach a new decision on sanctions without the support of the USA regarding Hungary’s position.
"As previously, within the sanctions coalition, there is a lot of exchange of information and ideas. Everyone is roughly aware of the plans of others," Vlasiuk emphasized.
