Umyerov met with Medinskiy in the presence of the Turkish Foreign Minister, - CCD
The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine refuted the statement by Putin’s aide, Vladimir Medinskiy, about his alleged one-on-one meeting with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Rustem Umyerov, prior to the talks in Istanbul.
This was reported by the CCD on Telegram, emphasizing that Russian propaganda has launched a campaign to discredit the Ukrainian negotiation group.
"Putin’s aide, Vladimir Medinskiy, claimed an alleged ’bilateral meeting’ with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Rustem Umyerov, before the talks in Istanbul. This information is false. In reality, the meeting took place in the presence of Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who acted as a mediator. Claims of supposed ’closed agreements’ reached at this meeting are a manipulation aimed at undermining trust in the Ukrainian negotiation group," the statement said.
The CCD noted that Russian propaganda is preparing a two-pronged informational attack against Ukrainian representatives at the Istanbul talks.
"Inside Ukraine, information with elements of conspiracy will be spread about alleged personal connections between delegation members and Russians. For the Western audience, messages will suggest that it is Ukraine that is allegedly ’delaying peace negotiations.’ Meanwhile, it is Russia that systematically avoids agreements on ceasefires. Russia’s goal is to replace reality and impose a narrative in which the aggressor portrays itself as a ’peacekeeper’," stated the Center.
