"Yenakiieve Sea" is drying up: the reservoirs of Donbas are on the brink of disappearing due to the actions of the occupiers
Photos of the Volyntsivske Reservoir, also known as the "Yenakiieve Sea," were presented to the public by journalist and blogger Denys Kazanskyi.
The key water source is on the verge of complete disappearance. The presented images show the almost completely dried-up reservoir that for a long time provided water supply to Donetsk, Yenakiieve, and nearby populated areas.
This body of water was previously considered one of the largest in the Donbas region, and now it presents a sad picture of dried-up shores and remnants of water. The water resources are almost completely depleted, and the situation worsens with each passing day.
"All the water was pumped out from here as well. By the end of the summer, it will completely dry up," Kazanskyi comments on the situation.
According to him, other reservoirs in the Donbas in the areas of Donetsk, Makiivka, and Khartsyzk are also in the same condition. There is practically nowhere to get water from.
Experts explain the water crisis as a result of the barbaric exploitation of the region by Russian occupiers. The destruction of mines, water pipelines, and the complete devastation of communal infrastructure have led to the collapse of the water supply system, which was built over many years.
The decreasing water levels in substantial reservoirs pose not only a humanitarian crisis for the local population but also serious environmental consequences.
