Zelenskyy: Ukraine is ready to provide assistance to Moldova

Ukraine is ready to make every effort to assist Moldova so that as a result of the energy crisis in Transnistria, there will be no Russian pressure on Chisinau and President Maia Sandu.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports "Interfax-Ukraine".

"Regarding the issue of the Transnistrian crisis that occurred, perhaps President of Moldova will speak more about it in detail.

We were ready to actively support Moldova to avoid pressure on Chisinau and President Maia Sandu," Zelenskyy said during a press conference following the IV summit "Ukraine – South-East Europe" in Odesa on Wednesday.

The supply of Russian gas to Transnistria ceased on January 1, 2025, after Ukraine stopped its transit through its gas transportation system in response to Russia’s continued full-scale war against Ukraine.

Against this backdrop, "Gazprom" limited supplies through Moldova to zero cubic meters per day, citing the country’s historic debt.

From December 10 in Transnistria and from December 16 in the right-bank part of Moldova, a state of emergency in the economy was declared. From January 3, rolling blackouts began to be applied in Transnistria to save energy. On February 3, the company "Moldovagaz" started supplying gas to the Transnistrian region.
