The NBU warns about phishing emails with viruses

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has officially announced a new fraudulent campaign during which Ukrainians are being sent emails with malicious software, imitating official messages from the NBU.

The regulator recorded the mailing of these virus-laden emails today, June 12, and urged citizens not to download the attached files or click on links contained in such messages, as this could be extremely dangerous.

The National Bank clarified that fraudsters are using a fake email address: [email protected], to make their emails look legitimate. Meanwhile, the NBU reminds everyone that all official messages from the regulator are sent from the domain @bank.gov.ua.

One of the banks has already confirmed receiving such fake mailings but assured that the malicious program was not downloaded.

"This could have negative consequences for an ordinary person, as fraudsters will gain access to the contents of their laptop, tablet, or phone. Not only to personal or business correspondence but also to account data, which could start being stolen. For a bank, this is a complete disaster, as criminals can attack not only the bank itself but also its customers. Everyone remembers the collapse that was caused by the hacking of Kyivstar at one time," the bank noted, emphasizing the seriousness of the threat.
