In the capital of Ukraine, a hacker wanted by the FBI of the USA was detained

Ukrainian law enforcement officers have detained a member of an international hacker group who was wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation. The perpetrator is involved in large-scale cyberattacks on industrial enterprises in various countries around the world.

According to the investigation, the hackers used self-created ransomware viruses to infiltrate the corporate networks of enterprises. After a successful attack, the perpetrators demanded a ransom in cryptocurrency. The total amount of damages caused by the group exceeded 3 billion hryvnias in equivalent.

The 33-year-old detainee acted as a technical specialist—he identified vulnerabilities in information systems, which were then used to organize the attacks.

A citizen of a foreign state, who was hiding in Kyiv, was detained at the request of the Office of the Prosecutor General. The Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure in the form of extradition arrest.

After the completion of the extradition review, the man was handed over to the American side to be brought to criminal responsibility. Indictments against several other members of the group have already been sent to court.
