SBGS: Russians do not have a significant grouping for an offensive in the Chernihiv region

Against the Chernihiv region, the Russians maintain certain forces and means, but no significant grouping for an offensive has been recorded.

This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, on Hromadske Radio.

According to him, everything the Russians are holding on the border with the Chernihiv region is mostly intended to maintain their positions.

"No substantial grouping that the Russians could apply on our borderline has been noted. We do not record any other enemy actions recently, including infantry groups, use of sabotage and reconnaissance groups," stated Andriy Demchenko.

He added that the Ukrainian military is also maximally strengthening this direction to be ready for any development of events.

"However, currently, the situation in this area is calmer than in the Sumy or Kharkiv regions."

Is there a threat of an offensive from Belarus?

Andriy Demchenko pointed out that at the moment there is no group of forces on the territory of Belarus in the direction of our border that is formed or being formed and could pose a significant threat. But in the context of the announced joint exercises of Russia and Belarus, with the active phase planned for September, any scenario cannot be excluded.

"We are closely monitoring the announced joint exercises of Russia and Belarus. The task of the Defence Forces’ intelligence units, as well as the State Border Guard Service, is to obtain all the necessary information about the number of forces that Russia can engage on the territory of Belarus during the active phase of the exercises. After all, it is during this period that the threat to our country will increase, particularly depending on what forces and means will be involved in the exercises," reported the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
