Details have emerged as to why Yuriy Chernetskyi, accused of drug trafficking, is at liberty

The well-known owner of capital barber shops, Yuriy Chernetskyi, who is accused of drug trafficking, is not being held in custody due to the decisions of the Boryspil City District Court and the Pechersk District Court. Currently, the criminal cases are still under consideration in the courts.

This was reported by sources in the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office.

It should be recalled that in 2022, the Boryspil City District Court sentenced Yuriy Chernetskyi to 5 years in prison under Part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or shipment with the purpose of sale, as well as illegal sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues). The Court of Appeal upheld this decision.

“However, the Supreme Court partially satisfied the appeal of the defendant’s lawyers, due to which the verdict of the Boryspil City District Court was annulled, and the case was sent for a new trial to the court of first instance. The consideration of this case is currently ongoing,” a source reported.

At the same time, the Boryspil City District Court did not support the prosecutors’ motion to hold Yuriy Chernetskyi in custody and applied house arrest. The Court of Appeal did not satisfy the prosecutors’ complaint and left the accused under house arrest. The next hearing in the Boryspil City District Court in this case is expected on July 23.

Another criminal proceeding against Yuriy Chernetskyi under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or shipment with the purpose of sale, as well as illegal sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues, committed repeatedly or by prior conspiracy of a group of persons) is being considered in the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv. It should be recalled that in 2023, the Pechersk District Court attempted to close this case.

“The court satisfied the prosecutor’s motion to extend the preventive measure for the accused until August 22, while simultaneously reducing the bail amount from almost 4 million hryvnias to 1 million hryvnias. The accused posted the bail. Prosecutors filed an appeal against the court’s decision to reduce the bail amount, but the appeal hearing is scheduled for July 28,” reported a source in the capital’s prosecutor’s office.
