The EU has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2026
The EU has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2026, but obtaining renewed protection in 2025 depends on the country and the circumstances of return.
In the Netherlands, renewed protection is granted only to those who have returned to Ukraine for less than 8 weeks. In Germany, one must prove the temporary nature of their departure, while in Poland, maintaining PESEL UKR registration is required to renew the status. In the Czech Republic, renewed protection is possible upon personal application and explanation of reasons.
Meanwhile, in Switzerland, the status is lost after more than 15 days spent in Ukraine; in Denmark, renewed protection is granted in a limited manner; in Austria, there is a high probability of refusal; and in Italy, the decision depends on the specific region.
A long stay in Ukraine or providing false information may lead to a complete loss of status and a ban on entry to EU countries.
