Specialists in cybersecurity from DIU carried out an attack on Gazprom’s infrastructure

Cyber specialists from the DIU of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine struck a blow on July 17 against the network infrastructure of Russia’s PJSC "Gazprom." This caused significant damage to the structure directly involved in supporting Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

In particular, a large volume of databases was destroyed, and special software was installed. This information was reported by sources within the intelligence agency.

According to a spokesperson in the MID, the operation led to the disconnection of access to Gazprom’s information system for approximately 20,000 system administrators. Software was also installed on PJSC’s servers, which will in the future destroy the data of its information system.

Moreover, the cyber specialists destroyed:

– backup copies of data from Gazprom’s information system;

– databases of approximately 390 subsidiaries of the Russian gas monopolist and its affiliates, including "Gazprom Teploenergo," "Gazprom Oblenergo," "Gazprom Energosbyt," and hundreds of others;Gazprom cyberattack

– data from 1C server clusters (10 extremely high-power servers) along with all files (contracts, orders, directives) of Gazprom and subsidiaries;

– data from auxiliary systems (data protection, server control, administration, and much more);

– databases of pipeline, valve, sensor, pump, and other analytics systems (servers with SCADA system analytics responsible for managing the technical infrastructure were removed);

– operating systems on available servers and damaged BIOS (they do not boot and will require physical intervention to restore functionality).

"The degradation of Russian information systems to the times of technological medieval continues. Taking this opportunity, we congratulate Russian ’cyber specialists’ on another ’success’ and suggest gradually replacing mice and keyboards with hammers and pincers as the primary tools of work," noted a spokesperson from Ukrainian intelligence.
