Zelenskyy: Defence of Donetsk region is a priority, Pokrovsk direction is under particular threat
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi. The key defense directions and tasks for further actions were determined at the meeting.
The head of state published the details on his channel in Telegram.
The main focus is on the Donetsk region, where the enemy is concentrating significant forces. According to the president, the defense issue on the Pokrovsk direction is particularly important. The Russian troops continue their advance, but the Ukrainian army is successfully holding back the offensive forces.
The President emphasized that any advance by the Russian army must be met with strong resistance. Ukrainian units are also successfully eliminating sabotage groups attempting to infiltrate cities and villages in Ukraine.
"No such sabotage group should have a chance to survive," he stated.
In addition, Zelenskyy reported that Syrskyi and the new Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal have already discussed what resources are needed to enhance firepower and carry out more powerful long-range strikes against the enemy. He promised, "We’ll ensure it to the maximum."
The President also addressed the difficult situation in the border areas of the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. In these regions, the enemy continues to strike and terrorize the civilian population of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions using drones.
"We will respond significantly," Zelenskyy assured.
Summarizing, the president thanked all Ukrainian defenders who are making maximum efforts to achieve victory.
