The law on "killing" NABU does not harm European integration, - Kachka
The recently appointed Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, assured the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos, that the Ukrainian government is not abandoning its anti-corruption obligations.
He stated this on the evening of July 22.
Kachka reported that he had a phone conversation with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, in light of the Verkhovna Rada’s adoption of a controversial law regarding NABU and SAPO, and assured her that Ukraine is not deviating from the principles of the rule of law and anti-corruption reforms.
"I emphasized that today’s decisions of the Verkhovna Rada are not intended to put the institutional independence of NABU and SAPO at risk. All their key functions remain unchanged," – wrote Taras Kachka.
"There will be no compromises on anti-corruption reforms – Ukraine takes this seriously. Our reform plan and commitments related to accession remain completely unchanged" – he added.
Let us recall, Marta Kos stated that she is "seriously concerned" about the result of the Verkhovna Rada’s vote on project No. 12414, according to which NABU and SAPO become dependent on the decisions of the Prosecutor General, and called it a "serious step back."
