Mobilization of a single father in Zaporizhzhya: TRC made a statement

In the Zaporizhzhya region, the TerritorialRecruitment Center mobilized single father Volodymyr Strakhov. The military claims that the mobilization took place without violating the law.

As his sister Oksana Kiryeyeva told the journalists of "Suspilne.Zaporizhzhya," Volodymyr is raising seven-year-old twins on his own because their mother left the family when the children were only two years old. The family lived for some time in the occupied territory of the Polohy district, but the man decided to leave when the occupiers began to exert pressure and force him into cooperation.

The man was detained at a checkpoint and did not have time to arrange an official deferment from mobilization as a single father. Later, the TRC promised to check the documents and release him, but according to his relative, Volodymyr had not been in contact for three days.

The family appealed to the military recruitment office asking to give him time to arrange the documents, but they were refused with the comment, "Let him go fight." When asked what to do with the children, according to Kiryeyeva, the Center said they could temporarily be sent to a hospital, and later—to an orphanage. The family has now initiated a legal process—an official divorce from the mother, deprivation of her rights, and formalization of single father status.

At the same time, the Zaporizhzhya Regional TRC claims that the procedure took place in accordance with current legislation. On July 26 at 10:00 PM, during a document check at one of the checkpoints in Zaporizhzhya, National Police officers discovered Strakhov’s lack of military registration documents.

According to the resolution, he was taken to the Berdyansk District TRC and Department for verification of data. Military personnel from other Recruitment Centers and Departments in the Zaporizhzhya region were not involved in the incident. "During the verification and interview at the Berdyansk TRC and Department, Volodymyr Strakhov did not provide any information or documents indicating his right to deferment from mobilization during the special period," the statement reads.

After passing the military medical commission, which deemed him fit, a mobilization order and direction to the training center were issued. The Center and Department emphasized that no illegal actions were taken against the citizen.
