Zakarpattia customs officers seized elite bags and shoes worth about one million hryvnias
Zakarpattia customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally transport elite items across the border. The man who was carrying the goods claimed he was following instructions, but he faces a significant fine.
This was reported by Zakarpattia Customs.
At the international checkpoint "Tysa," customs officers stopped a bus driven by a 37-year-old driver. The man was returning from Austria, where he had been on a business trip, and in his customs declaration, he listed only personal belongings.
However, during the inspection of the vehicle, customs officers discovered a bag in the luggage compartment containing new women’s accessories and footwear from prestigious brands. Among the findings were handbags and shoes by Dolce&Gabbana, CHANEL, and DIOR. The most expensive item was a CHANEL handbag, valued at over 11,000 USD. In total, the value of the seized goods may reach approximately one million hryvnias.
The driver explained that he was transporting the items on someone else’s order, but this did not exempt him from liability. An administrative protocol was drawn up against him under Part 2 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The law provides for a fine of 30% of the value of the undeclared items.
The final valuation of the seized bags and shoes is to be determined by an expert commission.
