At the UN General Assembly: Ukraine and Papua New Guinea establish diplomatic relations

On the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on September 25, Ukraine and Papua New Guinea officially established diplomatic relations.

The relevant Joint Communiqué was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha and Justin Tkatchenko, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Sybiha thanked his colleague for the resolute support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that Kyiv is committed to developing relations in the areas of global food security, digital technologies, and humanitarian initiatives.

"For us, this is not just a symbolic gesture, but an important step for the development of cooperation," — stressed the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea, Justin Tkatchenko, has Ukrainian roots - he is the son of Ukrainian emigrants to Australia and acquired citizenship of Papua New Guinea in 2006.
