Ukraine wants to completely ban nicotine sachets

A group of Members of Parliament, including Mykhailo Radutskyi, Lada Bulakh, Maryana Bezuhla, and others, have registered Bill 14110, which proposes to completely ban the production (except for production for export), wholesale and retail trade, as well as import for sale on the territory of Ukraine of nicotine products for oral use.

This is reported by the Judicial-Legal Newspaper.

Nicotine products for oral use will be understood as nicotine products, including in the form of sachets, pouches, or pads, intended for the consumption or use of nicotine orally, without combustion or inhalation, and which are not medicinal products.

According to the authors, the purpose of the bill is to protect the population of Ukraine, primarily children and young people, from the harmful effects of nicotine and to prevent the spread of nicotine addiction.

The nicotine content in nicotine products for oral use currently available on the market can exceed its amount in a cigarette by tens of times — from 3 to 50 mg/g, and in some cases up to 120 mg/g per product, which leads to a rapid formation of addiction and increases the risk of acute poisoning with symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, tachycardia, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
