Large-scale power outage in Sakhalin: electricity disappeared after a lightning cable broke between substations
On the morning of October 27, a massive power outage occurred on Sakhalin. Several settlements were immediately left without electricity.
This was reported by Russian media.
The central and southern parts of the island were left without electricity, including the settlements of Dalnee, Poronaysk, Makarov, Uglegorsk, Kholmsk, Tomari, and Korsakov.
Residents of the affected areas also reported disruptions in water supply.
Before the sudden loss of power, witnesses described a bright flash in the area of TPP-1. Local media referred to this phenomenon as a "light pulse."
Throughout the day, energy workers were engaged in restoring power supply on the island.
Later, local authorities announced the cause of the sudden power outage on Sakhalin: a break in the lightning protection cable on a power transmission line between two key substations in the regional center. This triggered automatic protection systems and the disconnection of the energy system.
