HCAC released ex-Ministry of Defence official Liyev, suspected of embezzling UAH 1.5 billion
The High Anti-Corruption Court has released former Defence Ministry official Oleksandr Liyev, who is suspected of embezzling 1.5 billion hryvnias, on personal recognizance (i.e., from the pre-trial detention centre).
Today the court considered the petition of Liyev’s defence to change his preventive measure in the case of the theft of almost 1.5 billion hryvnia for the purchase of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On February 12, Liev was sent to a pre-trial detention center with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 50 million.
Liyev’s defence asked to change his preventive measure to personal obligation.
It is interesting that there is no moment when the decision was announced on the official broadcast of the court. However, from the joyful reaction of those present, one can guess that the defense’s motion is satisfied.
The decision was made by a judge who had previously released Liev on personal recognizance.
