A drone crashed in Romania near the border with Ukraine

The Romanian Ministry of Defence reported that drone-like fragments were found on Romanian territory near the Dunai River and the border with Ukraine.

This is stated in a statement from the Ministry of Defence released on Friday.

Elements of the alleged drone were found on agricultural land on the island of Velyka Breila.

“The Ministry of National Defence, together with specialized structures of the System of National Defence, Public Order and National Security, is conducting an investigation into the event according to special operational procedures on Friday, March 29, 2024,” the statement said.

CNN Antena 3 claims that the wreckage was found 12 km from the town of Breila. The drone’s crash shortly after midnight was reportedly accompanied by a loud bang.

Hearing the sound, locals came out of their houses and called emergency services. Soon the area was cordoned off by police and investigators.

According to sources, it was a Russian drone that was supposed to attack Ukrainian ports on the Dunai and, most likely, its GPS guidance system had failed.

This is about the fifth or sixth incident of drones falling on Romanian territory while Russia has been attacking Ukrainian ports on the Dunai. NATO and Romanian officials said after similar incidents in the past that they had found no evidence of any deliberate attack targeting Romania.
