In the Sumy region, the SSU detained an “ex-regional” FSB agent who aimed Russian air bombs

The security service prevented a Russian airstrike on new defense lines on the border of the Sumy region. To destroy Ukrainian fortified areas by fire, the aggressor planned to use guided bomb attacks.

As a result of a special operation by the SSU, an FSB agent who was conducting additional reconnaissance near the defensive line in the region was caught red-handed.

During a reconnaissance mission, he tried to establish the exact coordinates of a military facility of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in order to correct an enemy airstrike against it.

During the arrest, the attacker’s mobile phone was confiscated, from which he tried to send the aggressor a photo and geolocation of a potential “target.”

Thanks to the prompt response, the Security Service thwarted an attempt by the Russian intelligence service to obtain an intelligence report and use it to prepare air attacks.

According to the investigation, the detainee turned out to be a former local functionary of the banned Party of Regions.

After the de-occupation of the Sumy region, he was remotely recruited by a career FSB officer to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities in the region.

The “ex-regional” came to the “attention” of the Russian intelligence service thanks to his own messages in one of the messengers, in which he praised the Kremlin regime.

To carry out enemy tasks, the agent went out into the area, where he secretly photographed military installations and recorded coordinates.

Based on the collected evidence, Security Service investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state betrayal committed under martial law).

The attacker is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.

The special operation was carried out by SBU officers in the Sumy region under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor’s office.
