Construction of power units 5 and 6 using Westinghouse technology started at Khmelnytskyi NPP

Energoatom reports that construction of the fifth and sixth power units using the American AP1000 Westinghouse technology has begun at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

The other day the first cube of concrete was solemnly laid there.

“A special feature of the American AP1000 technology is the ability to maneuver blocks. Today, the enemy attacks and destroys precisely the balancing capacities of the Ukrainian energy sector, so building blocks with the ability to maneuver is very important for us,” said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

US Ambassador Bridget Brink noted that nuclear energy has become especially relevant now in Ukraine against the backdrop of Russian attacks, since it generates more than 50% of the country’s electricity.
