In Kyiv, a notary organized a scheme to steal from deceased individuals’ accounts

At least two of her clients, who applied for inheritance processing, were affected.

In Kyiv, a private notary was exposed for fraudulently withdrawing over 1 million hryvnias from the accounts of deceased individuals along with accomplices, reports the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, a woman whose father had passed away approached a private notary in the Kyiv notarial district to inherit his estate.

In turn, the notary sent requests to the bank to determine the existence of the deceased’s accounts and the funds on them for the subsequent processing of the inheritance of the specified assets.

Upon receiving information from the bank that the deceased’s accounts held over 850,000 hryvnias, the notary informed the heir falsely that the accounts held only 112 hryvnias.

Subsequently, the notary and her accomplice found an individual to pose as the legal heir to unlawfully obtain the said funds from the bank using forged documents.

Thus, the notary provided her accomplice with a forged certificate of inheritance rights, based on which the person posing as the legal heir received these 850,000 hryvnias, which they split between themselves.

Additionally, in a similar manner, the notary, with the same accomplice, found another person to pose as the legal heir and seized over 180,000 hryvnias of another victim’s inheritance.

Currently, the notary and her three accomplices have been notified of suspicion. They face imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
