Russian military established control over the city of Kurakhove, located in the southwestern part of the Donetsk region.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence on December 6.

The ministry claims that the Ukrainian army lost 80% of its personnel (approximately 12,000 individuals), about three thousand units of various weapons and military equipment, including 40 tanks and other armored combat vehicles.

«As a result of active offensive actions, the units of the «Southern» military group completely «liberated» the city of Kurakhove — the largest settlement in the southwestern part of Donbas», — emphasized the Russian military department on Monday, December 6.

Russian media reported that fights for the administrative building on the territory of the Kurakhove TPP continue within the power structures of the Russian Federation.

On December 5, some pro-Russian bloggers reported that the Russian flag was raised over the western outskirts of Kurakhove.

The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the information about losing control over the city. The morning summary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that on the Kurakhove direction, the military repelled 27 attacks from the Russian Federation.

The AFU declared that operations continue in Kurakhove to eliminate assault groups of Russian troops.

«The Russian army is conducting assault actions in the urban area of Kurakhove. Measures are currently being conducted there to identify and destroy enemy assault groups. A similar situation is on the Petropavlivka and Dachne directions», — reports the Joint Forces Operations «Khorytsia».

The map of the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState demonstrated that Russian troops occupied a significant part of Kurakhove. At the same time, the AFU likely controlled the industrial zone of the Kurakhovka TPP and the Pipe Plant in the west of the city. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine claimed that battles for the city continue.

Military experts believe that Kurakhove is necessary for the Russian army to continue its offensive. Researcher Kyrylo Mykhailov noted in a conversation with «Nova-Yevropa» that the successful capture of the city could lead to the redirection of the Russian forces involved in it to Velyka Novosilka or Pokrovsk, and eventually to entering the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

«Apart from these directions, no serious threats to the defense of the AFU or significant advances by the Russians on other sections are observed,» — he added.
