A new checkpoint "Velyka Palad’ – Nagyhódos" on the border with Hungary, intended for passenger cars and pedestrians, has started functioning in Zakarpattia, informed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Tuesday in Telegram.
Today a new checkpoint "Velyka Palad’ - Nagyhódos" was opened on the Ukraine-Hungary border, designed for vehicular and passenger traffic. It will increase the annual throughput capacity of the western section of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border by more than 70,000 passenger cars and 220,000 pedestrians
- emphasized Prime Minister Shmyhal.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction - Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba reported that the new checkpoint "Velyka Palad - Nagyhódos" in Zakarpattia region began operations on April 8.
According to him, this is the first new checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border in the past decades. "The checkpoint was launched on temporary infrastructure, which allowed for a quick implementation of the project. In the future, a full-fledged checkpoint will be built here," noted Kuleba.
According to the official, the new checkpoint is intended for passenger cars weighing up to 3.5 tons. It will operate daily from 7:00 to 18:00 and has two lanes for entry and exit. On average, it can serve 200 cars and 600 pedestrians per day, and annually - 73,000 cars and 220,000 pedestrians.
"The new checkpoint helps reduce queues for passenger cars at other crossings, supports local development, and strengthens cooperation with European partners," Kuleba emphasized.
As Shmyhal pointed out, the government aims to update 29 checkpoints and construct 17 new ones by 2030.
"Moreover, changes at the western border include the launch of a joint customs and border control with neighboring states, updating the technical base, and further digitalization," added the head of the government.
