The United States refuses to take on the role of mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, — State Department

The United States no longer plans to act as a mediator in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

This was stated by State Department representative Tammy Bruce at a briefing.

«We will not be mediators. We will not immediately fly to the other end of the world to moderate meetings. Now the work needs to be done between the two sides», — Bruce noted.

According to her, the US will continue to support efforts to achieve peace, but at this stage, «specific ideas» from Moscow and Kyiv are necessary to resolve the conflict.

Earlier, the Kremlin expressed readiness for direct negotiations with Ukraine «without preconditions», but with the mandatory annulment of President Zelenskyy’s decree prohibiting dialogue with Putin. In Kyiv, in turn, they emphasize that they are ready to discuss peace «in any format», but only after a ceasefire.
