As a result of the largest exchange ’1000 for 1000’, Ukraine managed to bring back service members from 46 units who had never been listed for exchange before. The return of soldiers from these units had long been blocked by the Russian side.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

’Every third liberated Ukrainian service member was held in captivity for over three years - 311 defenders had been held captive since 2022. 122 warriors were in Russian prisons since 2023, and 150 Defenders since 2024,’ the post states.

It is noted that among the soldiers liberated in the large exchange were 497 representatives of the Ground Forces, 97 sailors of the Naval Forces, 95 Territorial Defence fighters, 72 paratroopers, 21 from the Drone Systems Forces, two representatives of the Air Force, and two from the Support Forces.

’Also released were 56 border guards, 31 national guardsmen, and one representative of the State Special Transport Service. Returning home were 175 Defenders of the Mariupol garrison, 81 of whom were captured from ’Azovstal’. All the liberated service members are soldiers and sergeants who held the line at the hottest fronts,’ adds the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
