Graduates of medical universities in Ukraine will receive a payment of 200,000 hryvnias. The money will be paid to them as a one-time payment, but only on the condition of employment in medical institutions in rural areas or in territories of active hostilities.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a government meeting. The relevant decision was made by the government on May 30.

"We are approving a resolution on introducing a one-time payment of 200,000 UAH for graduates of medical universities who get employed in medical institutions in rural districts or in territories of active hostilities. This is significant support for young specialists and a means to address the shortage of medical personnel in these areas," stated Shmyhal.

He emphasized that investments in human capital, as well as security and defense issues, are the priority policies of the government and the state.

Salaries in Ukraine: why the amounts are changing

Earlier, the National Bank reported that in 2024 real wages (adjusted for inflation) increased by more than 15%. This process continues in 2025.

Businesses are actively seeking employees among population categories previously less represented in the labor market—students, pensioners, people with disabilities, and veterans. This partially helps enterprises deal with staffing challenges.

However, migration and mobilization still complicate the search for workers. Overall, the challenging situation in the labor market will persist for a long time, as Ukraine will need many hands for reconstruction after the war, and regional differences and structural changes (sectoral redistribution, new demographic realities, etc.) will create additional difficulties.
