The US Senate Committee approved providing Ukraine with $1 billion in assistance
The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee approved a defense spending bill for 2026, allocating approximately $1 billion for military aid to Ukraine.
This is reported by Reuters.
According to the document, the committee agreed to allocate $852 billion to the U.S. Department of Defense for the next fiscal year, which will end on September 30, 2026.
This is $21.7 billion or 2.6% more than proposed in the budget of U.S. President Donald Trump.
As the agency notes, the bill was supported by 26 senators, with three opposing, indicating broad bipartisan approval of the initiative.
"Not only did the previous administration but also the current one underestimated the level of challenges we face," said Republican Senator Mitch McConnell.
Among the key points of the bill are $800 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and $225 million for the Baltic Security Initiative, a significant portion of which will be aimed at supporting Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.
