In the Kharkiv region, a Russian occupier will be tried for the shooting of three Ukrainian soldiers

In Kharkiv region, another Russian war criminal will be tried. The commander of the grenade launcher unit from the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the occupying army was directly involved in the shooting of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in Vovchansk.

The Russian is accused of killing three defenders in June and July last year.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment to the court regarding the Russian serviceman involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

He is accused of crimes under part 5 of article 27, part 2 of article 28, part 2 of article 438, part 2 of article 28, part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as of the edition before 24.10.2024.

The commander of the grenade launcher unit of the motorized rifle company of the 82nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with the call sign "Altai" will appear before the court. He, along with other occupiers, occupied the territory of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant after the renewed invasion of Russian forces in the north of Kharkiv region.

The first crime the occupier will be tried for was committed on June 16, 2024. At that time, an unarmed Ukrainian soldier ended up in Russian positions at the plant’s territory. The suspect, along with other Russians, interrogated the Ukrainian, passed the information obtained during the interrogation to the higher command, and received an order to kill the prisoner.

"He was executed. The accused ensured the cover for the actions of the executioner of the Ukrainian military," noted the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The suspect committed two more murders under the same scheme in July last year.

Soon after, he was taken captive himself.

"On September 24, 2024, special units of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, during the liberation of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant territory, captured Russian military personnel, among whom was the accused. They were taken to one of the front-line settlements in Kharkiv region, where prosecutors immediately conducted interrogations to document all circumstances of the crimes and gather evidence," the report says.

The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by employees of the SSU in Kharkiv region.

Currently, the accused is being held in a detention facility. Prosecutors will insist in court on the imposition of the harshest punishment — life imprisonment.
