Zelenskyy: Ukraine is ready for peace talks anywhere, even in Budapest
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to hold peace talks anywhere if it helps bring the end of the war closer—even in the capital of Hungary, Budapest.
He said this during a meeting with journalists.
According to the head of state, the location of the negotiations is not of fundamental importance; the main thing is the result.
«If there are results—let it be, let the negotiations take place anywhere. If this is a condition for a trilateral meeting, and it means we will come out with some positive outcome for Ukraine, primarily regarding the end of the war, then let it be—let him earn his benefits. Our task is to end the war», — Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president noted that he does not rule out the possibility of negotiations even in Budapest, despite Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who, in his words, «blocks everything for Ukraine.» Zelenskyy also recalled that it was in the Hungarian capital in 1994 that the Budapest Memorandum was signed, which he called «an ineffective document.»
«I don’t really believe in the purity of this agreement. But if it’s a trilateral meeting about ending the war—then we are ready, no matter where. Almost no matter—definitely not in Russia, of course, and certainly not in Belarus», — the president emphasized.
