NATO announced the need to increase defence production

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated the need to increase NATO’s defense production and ensure long-term support for Ukraine.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoane stressed that the alliance needs to revitalize the defense industry.

“Two years after the start of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, it is absolutely necessary for both Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security to increase our defense production and update our defense industry,” the Deputy Secretary General said.

He also added that since July last year, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has agreed to approximately $10 billion in contracts, including for Patriot missiles and 155mm projectiles.

“The allies have a single set of forces. We therefore need to ensure a complementary approach to defense industrial issues that respects NATO’s competencies, such as standard-setting, and does not create barriers between allies,” Joan said.
